This year, we’re celebrating Black History Month by showcasing our destination’s rich history—as well as highlighting historic neighborhoods, restaurants and events that honor Black heritage through special programs, exhibitions and valuable partnerships.
On Feb. 1, we began a collaboration with iHeart for a custom sponsorship featuring select iHeart stations’ Black History Month and Black Music Month promotions. The campaign includes custom sponsorship spots on terrestrial radio for What Black History Means to Me and Black Music Month, host-read podcast spots on Strawberry Letter and Therapy for Black Girls, and video pre-roll ads targeting African American women ages 25-54 with children.
This campaign will reach national audiences through streaming and select stations in key metro areas, including New York, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston and Dallas. The African American traveler is a strategic audience within our multicultural strategy, and this sponsorship aims to enhance our visibility and engagement with this important demographic.

We’ve also been working to highlight Black History Month celebrations across our destination through Visit Orlando’s social platforms, consumer blog and calendar of must-visit events and businesses. These include month-specific and year-round activities at Black-owned restaurants, historic sites and museums that honor African American culture and heritage. Some featured events include Black History Month at Walt Disney World® Resort, the opening reception for the Florida Highwaymen Collection at the Orange County Convention Center and more.
Additionally, your Visit Orlando team has highlighted Orlando’s rich African American history and cultural influences through several videos on YouTube. They were created in partnership with Black leaders, including Ericka Dunlap, Orlando native, 2004 Miss America and the first Black woman to be named Miss Florida, as well as Travel Expert Kellee Edwards and the Orlando Magic community ambassador Bo Outlaw:
