Hurricane Season Begins June 1: Preparedness Starts Now
Visit Orlando participated in Orange County Government’s Senior Officials Workshop in preparation for the start of hurricane season on June 1 — a strong reminder of the coordination and planning that supports our community year-round.
Visit Orlando plays an active role in that preparedness, working closely with the Orange County Office of Emergency Management and industry partners before, during and after storms or other crises. Our team helps communicate the status of the destination to key audiences and monitors hotel availability with member properties to support evacuees when needed.
Hurricane season begins June 1, making now the right time for businesses to review emergency preparedness plans and ensure staff are informed of available resources. Orange County’s strong coordination among local agencies and the tourism community supports a high level of readiness for severe weather. Orlando’s inland location also positions our destination as a common evacuation option for those located on the coast.
Businesses are encouraged to review Orange County Government’s Hurricane Safety Guide for planning guidance and to confirm emergency contact information with Visit Orlando by emailing our member relations team at Membership@VisitOrlando.com to update your emergency contact information.
Additional steps include assembling emergency kits, updating business continuity plans and signing up for OCAlert.net to receive timely emergency notifications.
