In Orlando, tourism is more than a powerful economic engine; it’s a force for good. From world-renowned theme parks to local hotels, attractions and meeting venues, the tourism industry is deeply woven into the fabric of our community. Through charitable giving, volunteerism and community partnerships, tourism gives back in countless ways — creating a lasting impact on our community.

A Culture of Generosity

Whether it’s a silent auction, a charity gala or a community fundraiser, Central Florida’s tourism companies consistently step up to help. Local hotels and attractions are among the most consistent and generous contributors to nonprofit events across Central Florida. From attraction passes and room stays to venue assistance, tourism businesses help these events succeed and more importantly, raise money for our community.

Local Champions Making a Difference

In addition to our major theme parks partners who contribute time and resources to a variety of philanthropic causes and local nonprofits, there are also many other tourism businesses that make a significant difference in Orange County.

Central Florida tourism industry icon, the late Harris Rosen, established the Tangelo Park and Parramore PS8 programs offering free preschool for every two-, three- and four-year-old child living in Tangelo Park & Parramore. Plus, full college or vocational school scholarships, including tuition, room & board and books, for eligible graduates.  Between the two programs, more than 500 high school students have received Rosen scholarships since the programs’ inception.

Another example, just last year, Central Florida Marriott hotels raised over $1 million for local charities including Children’s Miracle Network, Coalition for the Homeless and Parramore Kids Zone.

Meetings with Meaning

Orlando’s meetings and conventions industry also plays a vital role in giving back. Events at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) have contributed to the local community through initiatives such as:

  • $1 million in donated home improvement products
  • 40,000 pounds of repurposed materials for homebuilding
  • 32,000 pounds of food for those in need
  • $114,000 in educational scholarships
  • $60,000 in bicycles for foster children

Visit Orlando’s Destination Experience team acts as a vital community connector, helping ensure every aspect of a meeting is successful — including matching groups with impactful CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) opportunities.

A great example: When the National Athletic Trainers’ Association held its Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposia in Orlando, the group hosted four CSR activities. These included a local middle school community event, a “Dress for Success Career Closet” for students and young professionals, a sock drive supporting unhoused and at-risk youth, and a blood drive to give back to the host city.

In addition, Heart of Florida United Way has launched a new Voluntourism program through its Volunteer Resource Center. This initiative offers customized, hands-on volunteer experiences for groups of all sizes — with opportunities focused on financial stability, education, digital equity (TECHquity), basic needs, health and wellness, and more.

Visit Orlando: Service is our Superpower

Previous Charity Beneficiaries of Visit Orlando's Magical Dining presented by Orlando Health

For 20 years, Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining program has been more than just a celebration of our destination’s vibrant culinary scene — it’s been a catalyst for positive change in our community.

Since 2009, Magical Dining has raised nearly $3 million for local nonprofits, helping to uplift those who need it most. In 2024 alone, the program generated more than $352,000, with the majority of funds supporting The Mustard Seed of Central Florida — an organization that helps families rebuild their lives after crisis or tragedy.

The impact of this support is already being felt.

Thanks to the donation, The Mustard Seed was able to purchase a new truck, expanding their reach and enabling them to serve more families across Central Florida. They also completed critical roof repairs, including the installation of new skylights that have brightened their warehouse — just in time for the rainy season. Perhaps most meaningfully, they introduced a sliding scale fee structure for their furniture program, allowing 52 families — many of whom would have otherwise gone without—to furnish their homes with dignity and comfort.

But our commitment doesn’t stop at financial support.

Visit Orlando team members regularly roll up their sleeves to volunteer — whether it’s deconstructing mattresses for recycling, mentoring local students, organizing donation drives, or even helping renovate housing for unhoused residents. It’s this spirit of service that defines who we are and what we stand for.

As we celebrate 20 years of Magical Dining, we’re reminded that every meal shared, every dollar raised, and every hour volunteered is part of something bigger. Together with our partners, our restaurants, and our community, we’re proud to lead by example — and to keep making Orlando not just a top travel destination, but a place where everyone can thrive.

See how else tourism helps you.
